I have been rather underacheiving at this blogging lark so as a goal for myself I am aiming to write something once a week. Whether that's relaxation tips, motivational affirmations or generally talking about my day as a therapist I will be hoping to make this more of a regular thing.

If you like what you see, or you don't!, drop me an email and tell me the sorts of things you'd like covered here and I will endeavour to accomodate ;-)

Social Worker, Law Enforcer, Cleaner, Cook, Counsellor, Chauffer, Confidant, Teacher, Motivator, Personal Assistant, the list is endless..... Moms have it tough! And after all this, we only give them one day in the year to show them how much we appreciate them!

To show her how much you really care, why not book an hour of Relaxation for your mom this Mother's Day?

Our Reiki Gift Certificates are just £35 for an hour of hands on healing and relaxation using the additional power of crystals to rejuvenate both body and mind.

Last Monday marked the first of many Relaxation and Anxiety Relief presentations I will run for the Alzheimer’s Society.

The group consisted of individuals with Alzheimer’s and their carers and my presentation made up part of their monthly Dementia Café sessions at The Kenrick Centre in Harborne, Birmingham.

I really enjoyed teaching the group about visualisation techniques and how to use EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) or ‘Tapping’ to combat the effects of fear and anxiety.

Having Alzheimer’s can be very frightening and also very frustrating as things that happened years ago have crystal clear clarity yet you have no recollection of where you put your house keys or what you had for breakfast that day. This short term memory loss becomes progressively worse until you have no memory of your closest friends or family members as you become more and more deeply embedded in your own past memories.

This is distressing enough to go through, however it is the carers that have to watch their loved one go through this deterioration knowing that there is no cure and it will simply continue to get progressively worse.

Fear, frustration, anger, resentment and anxiety, all play a part in the day to life of living with this cruel condition.

The tools and techniques I work on during these workshops aim to aid in relaxing the body and quietening the mind and thereby reducing those racing, negative thoughts and the physical symptoms associated with stress and anxiety, such as heart palpitations, lack of appetite, irritability.

Helping people to learn tools and techniques that they can put into practice straight away was very rewarding and hopefully the group got as much out of the experience as I did from meeting them all.
